This week in social studies we learned how the Revolutionary War started and how it ended. We also learned of the battle and attacks of Trenton. We learned how colonists protested against British taxes and rules. Also, when the Declaration of Independence was signed on was July 4, 1776. That is what we learned in social studies this week. Paul 3/13 What we did in Social Studies, this week, was: Monday: we read about colonial life. On Tuesday we read Clash of Empires, studied and reviewed for the social studies test. On Wednesday we did the Beginning colonies test. By Allie 2/27 In Social Studies this week we learned about the Middle colonies, and the Southern colonies. We learned what crops the Middle and Southern colonies grew. Next, we started our colonies plates. We got to pick one state and we had to do a report on it. We had to get all the important information about are state. Then we read the Colonial Governments we learned that white men who owned land could only vote, next we wrote down the resources of the colonial governments. Last week, we read a packet about the lost colony of Roanoke where two colonies failed and one was lost. Then we read a packet about Jamestown, a successful colony in North America that grew tobacco, on Wednesday. Finally, we finished reading the packet about Jamestown, on Thursday. Also, we started a brochure for a job in North America like being a blacksmith to make horse shoes or being a delivery boy to deliver stuff like bread, on Thursday. By: Brady Explorer Reports1/12/15 This week in social studies we read about explorers, how long did they sail for, where did they sail to, also when they were born and when they passed away. Then we started a new paper, and that paper we picked our explorer and had to fill out information about that explorer. The paper is due on Monday or Tuesday, and then today we had groups and we read a book and then made a big poster. The paper was about Spain, Northwest passages, French, and English. Emma #22 10/24/14 This week in history we learned regions and the people of Iroquois, Great Plains, North Coast, Eastern Woodlands, and Northwest Coast. Then, we did a review of travel, food, culture, and fun facts. Also, we made posters that were really cool. Next, we watch some videos that taught us cool things like their homes and other things like that. Lastly, we took a test about all the regions, there were 24 questions. This week in social studies, we learned about Native Americans and how they live. Also, we are doing a paper on the Native Americans. There are west, southwest, Eastern Woodlands, and the great plains. We are doing a poster. Also, we did a story using pitchers like Native Americans. We are getting ready for a test on them and read a lot about them to. Stacy This week in social studies we learned about the Native Americans of the west what they hunted rabbit deer elk salmon whale there shelter was long houses pit houses environment extreme cold and the pit houses are made of stone they had potlatch those are special feasts they made totem poles are carved logs that are painted with symbols the men built igloos they also hunted walruses they used skin for clothing and turned bones into weapons. Daniel 10/10/2014 This week in social studies we turned our American regions map we had to color all the regions different colors and we had to name the regions. We did lots of stuff in social studies like we did the Native people of the north America ,Native Americans of the west, The people of the southwest, The native Americans of the plains, People of the eastern woodlands and the color map. By: Daniel This week in social studies we have been working on a map for the last two days, then we had to color the places where the people of the South West, people of the Plains, and the people of the Eastern Woodlands. How we got that all down was we would work as a table group and then we would read The United States book and write down the interesting facts about the region. When we were done we would say it in front of the class. By: Emma 9/26/14 This week in social studies we did a group activity where you and your group have to get information about your topic. You had to tell the location, the region, their culture, their food, and tribe. Then we went up in front of the classroom and told it and we had so much fun doing it and I can’t wait till next week to do another project! By Lorelei, & Morgan 9/19/14 This week we learned all about the Paleo Indians, Tlingit Indians, Hopi Indians, Comanche Indians, and the Haudenosaunee Indians. Here are some facts about the Paleo tribe. They farmed corn, beans, and squash, built underground rooms called kivas, and they built earth mounds. These are some facts about the Tlingit Indians. They shredded bark to make cloths, divided the society into classes, and several families lived in one big house. There are also facts about the Hopi. They grow red, blue, yellow, white, and purple corn, the first people to fire pottery, and they are skilled to make jewelry, traditional pottery, and weaving. Historians are people who study the past. We also learned about PRIMARY SOURCES and SECONDARY SOURCES. A PRIMARY SOURCE is “records made by people who saw or took place in an event.” A SECONDARY SOURCE is “records written by someone who was not there at the time of the event”.
